VMEconnect [Metacomp, Inc.]

VMEconnect is a powerful, asynchronous, serial I/O subsystem compatiblewith VMEbus-oriented systems. It is designed for high-performanceapplications in which the connection of a large number of serial I/Odevices operating at high data rates is desired.VMEconnect provides the capability to attach multiple asynchronousterminals, printers, and general-purpose serial I/O devices to the systemin clusters of eight or 16 devices. Up to 256 clusters can be connectedto the system, and can be distributed over a low-cost, twisted pair,wired bus with a maximum length over 1 feet. Each serial channel bushas full modem control, and can be individually programmed for alltypical baud rates, up to 38.4 Kbps.An optional hub controller allows users to increase the number of devicesor the overall length of their networks. Up to 127 additional hostadapters and 127 eight- or 16-channel remote asynchronous connectors canbe added. Fiber-optic ports allow transmission of up to 10, feetwithout signal degradation.
